November is My Birthday Month!!!

I'm making this post so late ha ha. November 3rd was my Birthday. I'm hoping that this year can be a lot better for me than last year. I hope to accomplish some bigger goals and I want to be happier. Last year, I felt down a lot of the time. I felt like I can't get anything to go my way. I just felt like I'm watching other people achieve their dreams and have all these good things happen for them, but I can't seem to get anything good to happen for me. And a lot of the reason that I was sad a lot is because of a freakin guy I like, yeah I know.

This year, all that really needs to change. I do not want this year to be an exact repeat of last year. I told myself that this year has to be better. First of all, I am going to be happier, we are definitely going to try dammit! I am going to work even harder at achieving goals that I want. I'm going to have some good things happen for me. I'm going to get things that I want.

So far this month of November has been alright. It's started off somewhat good, but then there have already been a couple things that really stressed me the fuck out! One of the great things that happened was that I got picked to be a top 10 finalist in a video contest with my school. They picked 5 students and 5 grads. So really I was a top 5 finalist out of grads that entered. I needed votes to win. Unfortunately I did not win, which was the down side of that for me. I'm not going to get into the details of the contest in this post. I definitely have some things to say about that, so I'm saving it for a separate post.

I went to Buffalo Wild Wings with my Mom on my Birthday. It was my first time eating there. It was pretty good. I also had a reward to get a free drink from Starbucks that day too. Then later that week I ended up getting another reward for a free drink at Starbucks and I got a coupon to get a free Bare Minerals lip gloss which was a birthday gift from Ulta. So basically I started off my month being able to get free shit! I also seemed to get a little more attention than usual from the guy I like. But that could mean nothing and it probably won't last. We'll see.

But yeah, My Birthday month is now over, there's already just 11 months left. This year better be awesome!

I filmed a vlog on my Birthday also! Check it out!!!

New Vlog! Pumpkin Spice and Everything Nice!

I filmed a vlog! I don't do too many vlogs, I would like to more often but I just don't do much exciting things or have people to vlog with. In this vlog I'm just driving around a bit, preparing to film a beauty video and I try some Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte for the first time... and in a bottle... from the store. Check out the video, hope you enjoy! Also please share, comment, give thumbs up and subscribe!!! That would be awesome! Peace! xo

AALIYAH

Can't believe it's already been 14 years since her death! Aaliyah was one of my favorite singers growing up! I've been a fan since her first album! I loved her style and her voice. She definitely was an inspiration. I still love listening to her music.

I know there's some fans that don't like when others make certain tributes of her, want to dress like her, make transformation videos, or imitate her. They say stuff like "Leave her alone, let her rest in peace". But to me that's some fan's way of showing how much they really appreciate her and she really did inspire them and make an impact on them! It's keeping her legacy alive!

I have also made a few tribute videos of my own in the past. The first is a drawing I did of her in 2011 when it was the 10 year anniversary of her death. I used make a lot of drawings of her as a kid even when she was still alive! The second is a little animation I made of her in college last year. The third one is a hair and makeup tutorial I did of her last year. Check them out below!

My drawing!

There is also a petition started by fans to get an Aaliyah Mac Cosmetics Line. Check out and sign the petition!!! Aaliyah For Mac

Straight Outta Compton!

Went to see Straight Outta Compton last weekend, when I first heard that this movie was coming out I knew this was something I have to see!

I was real young, probably like still a baby when NWA came out, so I wasn't that into them or knew too much about them then. I grew up in the 90's so I was paying more attention to them by the time they had solo careers in the early 90's. I used to watch MTV a lot as a kid, so I remember when Dre came out with G thang with Snoop, and Ice Cube's old video like It Was a Good Day. I always liked a lot of the West Coast rap music. I loved 2Pac, Snoop, Dre, Nate Dogg, Warren G, etc. I grew up listening to a lot of their music, and still love blasting it today.

I knew about NWA through out the 90's and knew that Eazy E, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube were from that group. I seen some of their old videos here and there, but just didn't pay too much attention to it, it was kinda old school stuff to me. As I got older, more into adult hood, around early/mid 2000's was when I started to listen to more of NWA's music. Maybe also because I love playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, it has a lot of those older west coast rap songs on the hip hop station including some NWA and Eazy E. I made cds with some of their music on it, I thought their music was dope, there was just something about it. Some of the things they say.

I think the movie is great because, it makes you understand more of what they were really about. They weren't just some gangster rap group that rapped about violence for no reason. They rapped about a lot of the issues that are going on like racism and police brutality. I like that they play and perform a lot of their music through out the movie, it really takes you back. They even have Snoop and 2Pac appearances in the movie and you hear snippets of their music. Even Bone Thugs N Harmony is mentioned, since they were discovered by Eazy E.

This movie was really good, I would definitely recommend that you go see this movie. I think you should go see it if you don't understand what NWA was about or think they were just gangsters. Also, you should definitely just go see it if you're a fan of hip hop, especially 90's west coast hip hop. You basically get to see how the whole west coast rap thing evolved, how the newer rappers, like Snoop, Pac, even Eminem got their start. They probably wouldn't gotten to were they are if it weren't for NWA.

My Everyday Makeup Routine and New Products From Sigma Beauty!

I received some products from Sigma to try out. A few brushes, an eyeshadow and a lip base. The 3D HD kabuki brush is pretty good for applying foundation. With it's angled shape, I just kind of brush and pat at the same time, and it's easy to get into the crevices of your face.

I also really love the eyeshadow. It's called Notre Dame and it's like a deep shimmery brown. Great for an everyday neutral look. I used these products in my everyday makeup routine and made a video of it.

I'm Back!!

I neglected my blog for the past 2 years and even before that I wasn't posting that much. I've decided to revive my blog, give it a new look and try to start posting again. I don't know how often I will post, but I will try my best to try not to go more than 2 weeks at the most without posting. It just gets over whelming trying to keep up with all these social sites, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram etc.

So I graduated college this past October with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Digital Art and Design. My Birthday was around the same time, November 3rd. Graduation was on Halloween, so the day after my Mom threw me a little Graduation / Birthday. I just turned 31, I know that's hard for people to believe, because I look and seem so young. But that's cool. Well 31 is still kind of young anyway though. But yeah, people think I'm 19 or 20.

So since graduation I've been trying to find work in graphic design and video production. It's hard finding something, but I wouldn't mind doing freelance work too. So if you need work done hit me up. I also do Youtube which I've been doing for quite a few years now, but I really want to grow my channel and get my views up. That's hard too. I've been putting in more time into my videos trying to make them good as possible. I just hope it pays off soon. Just want people to enjoy what I do and appreciate the amount of work I put into a video.

Well that's all I want to say for now. There's so much that happened since I last posted 2 years ago, but I'm not going to write a whole book about it. I may share some older things here and there that I feel is worth blogging about along with new stuff.

Talk to ya later, Peace! Daseana xo

The Sims 2 Let's Play!!!

I've started doing let's plays of The Sims 2. I love The Sims 2, it's still my favorite. I haven't really gotten into playing The Sims 3 or 4 yet. Plus I feel it would be better to get a new computer first, because my macbook is over 4 years old now and it does freeze sometimes while using programs that use a lot of ram and power.

I have The Sims 3 game, but like I said, rather a get a new computer. The Sims 2 is starting to freeze my computer sometimes now. It's really annoying. Hopefully it will continue to work good enough for me to still record Let's plays every now and then.

Anyways, this is part 9 of my Sims 2 series I started. I want to upload them more frequently. Get to know Maya and Jay and check out the rest of the series on Youtube.

A Video Project...

I just spent a whole month filming and editing a video for my Video Project Class. Ok this has got to be the most stressful class out of all of them. And a few of them have been pretty damn stressful for me. I mean, I did enjoy this class a bit, since it is filming editing and stuff, the type of shit that I already do. I love filming and editing videos. It's just that since this was for a class project, everything has to be done a certain way and done by a certain time. Basically the video is supposed to be about me as an artist and my process on how I put together a certain project. We had to record a voice over, film an interview of ourselves and film a lot of footage to add to the video. I think it's pretty cool. It took me a lot longer to get mine done than everybody else. I feel like maybe I just spent a lot of time on mine because I feel it has to be perfect. I Think all the other students did pretty well on their projects, some better than others. There were a few who's projects were filmed very well and edited to look more professional. I was kinda nervous about my project not being that great, but after seeing some of the projects, I think I did pretty good on mine. I will probably upload my video to youtube soon and then share it here on my blog.

Blaaa!!!

I haven't posted on my blog in months, and I feel guilty about it because it's here, and I feel like I should be posting something regularly then, right? Yeah, so I'm posting something right now. Can't say that from now on there will be posts regularly, it's something that I have to work on. It's just kind of hard to keep up with all these, sites. I have school, and I like to focus on youtube.
I just went to NY a couple weeks ago, it's always great to see my family. Found out my Dad had a brain tumor that could cause him to go blind. He just had the surgery to remove it, and it went fine, so I'm glad about that. It was freezing in NY, while in Florida it was around 70's and 80's. I didn't get a chance to see a lot of my family while I was there, the trip was so last minute, also my Great Grandfather is very sick and might not live much longer, which is a reason we went up there. Now I'm back in Florida back to school and all the same shit. Hopefully I get to go back up there soon. I took a plane there and back, this is my 2nd time taking a plane, I always feel nervous when I'm on a plane, it's kind of scary and a bit cool at the same time. I enjoy snack time on the plane lol.
Right now I have to think of something to do in front of a green screen for my project at school, it's for a motion graphics class. The video will be edited in After Effects. I have to go to class tomorrow morning, booo! I still haven't thought about what I'm doing for the green screen.
I'm about to make a salad for dinner and watch my shows, The Game on BET comes on tonight and  The Bad Girls Club. I have this stupid cough that I hope goes away soon. I developed this weird cold kind of thing ever since I got back from NY. Well anyway I'm hungry, off to make my salad and my show is about to start.
peace!

Went Home to NY

I got to go home (to NY) finally after a year and half. I haven't been able to get up there in a while is because I didn't have anyway to go by myself, haven't had much money for it. The reason I was able to go now was because my Grandmother passed away, my Mom bought me a plane ticket. I really wanted to be around my family. I was really happy to finally be home and see all the familiar faces that I'm used to. Sometimes really sad occasions bring family together.
(My Nana, Mary E. Mikulski )
Mary E. Mikulski, 75, went to be with her Lord on April 1, 2012, surrounded by her loving family. She was predeceased by her parents Rev. Leslie and Barbara Mae Fields; sisters, Louise Amar, Nettie Woolfolk, Rhoda Fields and brothers Leslie Fields, Jr. and Gilbert Fields. She is survived by her four children Daniel Mikulski, Keira Williams, Adam Mikulski and Debra Keyser; eight grandchildren Chesarae Archer, Nathan Archer, David Mikulski, Daseana Barnett, Danel Mikulski, Kira Soliven, Deanna Wood, and Dakeisha Wood; seven great-grandchildren Jaron Archer, Janiya Archer, Nathan Archer III, Raven Archer, Jaden Branch, Kingston Branch, Julian Adams and Taliq Mikulski. She is also survived by her sisters Dorothea Cornwell, Lillie Colvin, Saundra Wilson, Margie Powell and brother Walter Fields; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mary was born, raised and graduated in Binghamton, NY and lived in Ithaca for the last few years. She was a retired employee of IBM. She was the Choir Director and member of her father's church, Our Free Will Baptist Church, for many years. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to express their appreciation for the care and compassion shown to their mother by the staff at the Cayuga Ridge Extended Care. A special thank you to Doris Kusznir.

I took a plane for the first time ever in my life, It was the quickest way for me to get up to NY, and I was only going to be able to stay there for three days. Not only was it my first time, I was going by myself. I was scared to death, it ended up being ok, but I would still avoid flying as much as possible. If I could somehow know for a fact that the plane is not going to crash, then it would be all good.

I was happy to see my nephew, he is 3 already, he'll actually be 4 soon. He's getting so big, I would like to see him more often. I haven't seen my other nephews in a while either, I didn't get to see them while I was up there. One of the nights a bunch of the family went to Apple Bees for dinner, it was fun. I also had a lot of fun hanging out with my Cousins and Brother another night, we went out to a club. I wish things could be like that more often

I plan on going back up there in July, I should be able to stay a bit longer and visit with family that I haven't got to see in a long while. I can't wait!

Bloggin

Ok, I need to start writing in my blog more often. I want to, I always think of things that i think would make a interesting blog post. But I just never post it. I wanted to write something about 9/11, and I've had some interesting dreams that i wanted to write down. So I was  thinking maybe I should make a schedule like, posting something at least once a week.

Well anyway, My Typography teacher pissed me off, I'm not gonna get into that right now.
Let's see... I want to step my game up with youtube videos, mainly for my drawing channel and my beauty channel. My drawing channel, I just need to upload more often, I need to get to working on more drawings, and post some interesting vlogs. I would like to become partner on that channel. I think I could if I was uploading vids more often, I have pretty good drawing skills. So eventually I'll start getting more subscribers and views. So far Youtube invited my videos to be monetized for revenue sharing. So whenever I upload a video, I automatically have the option to monetize it. It's not like when they just invite one of your videos because it's getting a lot of  views. But why give you the option to monetize all your videos like your a partner, but... not let you be partner..? idk.. I guess you still have to apply or be invited for that separately.

And Then my beauty channel, I'm already partnered with StyleHaul. But I feel I just want to make better videos. The main thing is that I just need a better camera, but i can't get it now. But I also realized that the lighting is a problem. But for now I think that buying light bulbs that give off more of a white light than yellow helps a lot. So that's what I did. I don't think that the bulbs I bought are as white as i wanted, but there's definitely a big difference, and I think that definitely helps my videos look better. But I also want to just make better videos. I get inspired from beauty ads and commercials. I just filmed a make up tutorial inspired by Candies. I like the photos with Vanessa Hudgens and Hayden Panetierre. My make up was inspired by Haydens make up in her pics, and then I also took pictures that were inspired by their photo shoots. I still need to edit the video. When I'm done, i'll upload some of the pics to my blog.

New Macbook and School

I just started school last month, I'm doing a Digital Arts and Design program. I just decided to try to go back to school. Thought I might as well since I'm not really doing anything else. So everything has worked out and I was able to start in January.

This is a school for entertainment and media. That's all I know is that I would like to have a career that has something to do with the entertainment business. I love art, music, dancing, fashion, singing. So I feel that this is the school for me. I kinda wish I could do something from every program, but I just went with Digital Art and Design because, it looks like a pretty cool program. I can do stuff with graphic design, motion graphics and editing videos. I wouldn't mind getting paid to do something that I already like doing anyway. Plus, I'll get to learn how to do more advanced stuff with graphics and video editing, so that's cool.

I went to the Behind the scenes tour before I started, it was pretty awesome. I said, "I definitely have to go here". also, people that have went to this school have done work for movies like, Avatar, Harry Potter.. worked with Artists like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, TLC.. have done work for popular video games out and a lot more! So yeah.. That's what's up!! And Also, another reason that might of helped my decision to go to this school, is everyone gets a MacBook Pro!!! holla!! lol.

I've already been wanting to get a laptop really bad, and then I started thinking about a macbook, because a lot of the people that I'm subscribed to on youtube, mainly beauty gurus all seem to have a macbook, and they edit their videos with imovie. I've been a bit jealous of people that have imovie, there's certain things you can do that you can't do with Windows Movie Maker, and also imovie provides royalty free music that u can use in your videos. That's a little easier than having to keep searching the web for free royalty free music that doesn't sound too stupid and corny.

So yeah I was looking forward to getting me a macbook, oh and the mac comes with Garage band, which is another program I wish I had, you can make your own music and shit with that, so yeah, that's definitely awesome lol.

And along with the macbook we also get all this expensive software because, we need it for our degree program. So I have Final Cut Pro and The Adobe Master Collection, that stuff is actually wicked expensive, like thousands of dollars. But now I have so much cool software, now I have a few different video editing programs that can do so much shit that Windows Movie Maker could not do. I have a few different music programs on here now. Man I don't even know how to use most of this shit yet. But I guess we'll be learning how in school.

I think I'm gonna be learning a bit of photoshop this month, and Illustrator. But yay I'm excited!

Growing Long Hair

I'm am working on getting my hair to grow longer, I just trimmed an inch off, and I think it did make my hair a lil better. I don't trim my ends as often as I should. So I'm going to start taking a little better care of my hair to get it a bit healthier and grow longer. right now my hair is about down to my arm pits, I would like my hair to be down past my breasts, maybe even down to my waist. I believe that it is possible. Also I am mostly African-American, and I have relaxed hair. I always had a lot of hair since I was little and been getting relaxers since i was real little too.
My hair has only broke off from a relaxer one time, and it was when I was little, because my mom wanted to try a new relaxer in my hair that just came out, but the relaxer ended up being no good. When I got older, like in my late teens/ early 20's, I started dying my hair sometimes. I never really had a problem with my hair breaking from dying it, up until a few years ago. One day I felt like doing blonde highlights, my hair came out still being soft and shiny, only problem is I didn't exactly like the color, So I went and bought another box of hair dye, and went over it just a couple days after I just dyed it the first time. That was a BIG mistake. For a while after that my hair wasn't the same. The ends were always really dry and frizzy, it was breaking off, so much hair would come out when I comb it.
About a year after that I decided to cut it, to get rid of the damaged hair. I just cut it so that my hair came down to above my shoulders. It grew back just fine, but the ends were still kind of getting on my nerves so I cut it that short again. After that I decided that I'm not cutting it anymore because I really hate my hair being short. So I thought I'll just trim the ends off lil at a time. My hair has grown back down to a lil past my arm pits. But sometimes the ends can still get too dry and get on my nerves, so i'll trim a little bit off, which is what I should be doing anyway about every month 1/2 - 2 months.

So the things that I will start doing from now on to get my hair to grow longer and be a little healthier are:

1. Trim my ends about no more than every 2 months. I won't trim a lot but maybe just a half inch ir an inch, It depends how bad the ends are.
2. Moisturize my hair and especially the ends really good. The ends are the most fragile part and if they get to dry they will break alot more often. I use a olive oil moisturizer and I have a Palmers Olive Oil spray, which I will use that every few days on the ends and a little bit thru out my hair. It makes my hair feel softer and makes it shiny and keeps it from getting frizzy.
3. Deep Condition more often, I think this is especially important for thicker/ kinky/ curly hair. I heard that Olive oil works good as a deep condition as well as just using a tiny bit to moisturize hair.
4. Take vitamins. I take Womens One A Day multi-vitamins. I was taking them before and noticed that my hair was growing faster. But I started to forget about taking them, so I'm trying to get back into the habit of taking them every day.
5. Drink a lot of water everyday. that's also something that I need to do more often.
6. Sleep on Satin pillow cases or wrap your hair at night with a satin or silk scarf. I have been sleeping with a satin scarf every night.
7. Don't use heat on your hair everyday. When you do flat iron or use any kind of heat on your hair, use a heat protector. Again olive oil is also a good heat protector. I don't flat iron my hair everyday, usually just my bangs tho.

So those are the main things that I will be doing more often to get my hair longer and healthier. Here are a couple pictures of how my hair looks now, and how long it is. I just trimmed a inch off a week ago.

Bad Dream

I wish I didnt have this bad dream about my Rottweiler Raja. It was horrible!!! Me and my brother were playing with him in our old house on the 2nd floor. He was so happy running around and then he ran down the stairs really fast. Since he's so big and heavy, he tripped as he got closer to the bottom of the stairs and he flipped over. Well the results of that weren't so pretty, I won't go into detail of how he landed and the way he looked. I think it's a bit too disturbing. I hate when I have dreams of seeing someone get killed especially when it's someone close to me. It's horrible when it feels so real and I actually see it happen. It's a nightmare!! But it feels good when I wake up, because I feel relieved that it was just a dream and I know they are really ok.

I'm trying to get back into my art more and wanted to make a video drawing something, so I thought I'd start with something that's kind of simple, ya know not too hard. Then I'll start working on some more advanced shit.

R.I.P Kayla

My younger cousin passed away yesterday, a problem with her diabetes. It's very shocking news for me, I just would of never expected anything like this to happen. I really wish I can be in NY with the rest of my family right now. I probably won't be able to attend her funeral. This just make me sad. I really want to be there...
